<image:title>Comme Il Vous Plaira - George Sand (1804-1876) manuscript of Comme Il Vous Plaira (1856)</image:title>
<image:caption>A single page, handwritten by George Sand from the play Comme Il Vous Plaria, her translation of William Shakespeare’s As You Like It. The play was performed at the Comédie-Française in 1856, and the manuscript may date from that time. The page is an excerpt of a conversation between Jacques and Celia in Act II, Scene VII. Sand made several changes to Shakespeare's work, most notably her creation of a romantic connection between Celia and Jacques rather than adhering to the original Celia and Oliver pairing. In her preface, Sand remarks that the changes she made were in an attempt to fit the fashion of the time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Ionesco Manuscript - Eugene Ionesco (1909-1994) manuscript of L’Impromtu pour la Duchesse de Windsor (1957)</image:title>
<image:caption>An autograph manuscript in French, signed “Eugene Ionesco.” Thirty-three lined pages, 6.75 x 8.5. A printed slip laid into the book reads, “With the compliments of the private secretary of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor.” In May of 1957, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor attended an elite gathering at the Paris home of an Argentinian couple, Marcelo and Hortensia Anchorena (53, Avenue Foch, 16th Arrondisement). Only ten other guests were present; one was Salvador Dali. Eugene Ionesco had written a short scene for the occasion, with music composed by Pierre Boulez.</image:caption>

<image:title>Tellers Bills - Ten strips of paper with secretary hand text written in black ink by at least three hands. Numbered in pencil, likely by a later hand. Mounted and framed. Holes indicate that they were previously bound together with wire. Signatures good on nine, including six signed by Richard Stonley and four by Edward Carne. One is signed by Richard Carxler/Carxten (illegible) the deputy to William Patten. Writing clear in most places, little fading. A set of documents rich in underexplored history from the Elizabethan, Jacobean, and Carolinian periods, linked to multiple figures of literary and historical importance. Items 1-5 were written and signed by Richard Stonley (1521-1600), one of four Tellers of the Receipt of the Exchequer, in 1568. As a Teller, a position he held 1554-1597, Stonley was responsible for accepting and tallying money being paid to the Exchequer, dispersing money from the Exchequer, and recording those transactions. Many receipts represent money owed by the Crown to a person, often for goods or services, or reflect money paid to the Crown, such as taxes, fines, or fees.</image:title>

<image:title>Greville - A receipt of payments disbursed at a royal sitting on 24 July 1618, signed by Fulke Greville. [Physical Details] This manuscript was found in the Rasmussen-Hines Collection’s copy of the first edition of Greville’s Certain learned and elegant works of the Right Honorable Fulke Lord Brooke, printed by Elizabeth Purslowe for Henry Seyle in 1633. This document offers an interesting snapshot of life in the court of King James I. In it, Fulke Greville, commissioner of the Treasury, authorized payments totaling just over £5015 for various expenditures. Greville himself, a courtier and author, is remembered for his literary work, particularly his biography of his friend Sir Philip Sidney. The recipients and projects named on the document are listed below with some conjectures as to their identities or contexts; however, much work remains to confidently identify these individuals and to situate this document within its specific moment in time. A preliminary transcription of the full manuscript is included below.[1]</image:title>
